Mange tak skal du have, Jan. Jeg har via PM fået hans mailadr. og jeg vil en dag ved lejlighed tage kontakt til ham. Ingen grund til at spilde hans tid unødigt. Aha. Så prisen for 2-spors er en god faktor 3 under 4-spors. Hm-hm. Jeg må lige overveje, om det er en god ide på sigt med en udbytning. Mine eksperimenter med halv-hastigheds optagelse skal jeg have afsluttet først. Hvis der ikke er andre problemer forbundet med det, kan løftet i diskanten modvirkes med en let justering på "treble"-potmeteret og derved kan båndstøjen sænkes tilsvarende. Umiddelbart er det en ret omstændig affære  og jeg må se hvad det ender ud med. Følgende synes at rejse en rynken i panden, hos de professionelle og med en naturlig gyldig grund: [1] Forskelle i EQ. Det generer mig ikke. Da jeg reelt kun fyrer <10KHz gennem elektronikken og optagehovedet, har jeg ikke tekniske begrænsninger derfra, i området over 10 KHz. EQ har, som jeg forstår det, størst effekt i frekvensområdets yderkanter. [2] Evt. mætning af afspillehovedet i diskantområdet. Det vil jeg eftersætte, som man siger på min arbejdsplads. Jeg savner god audio freeware, der indeholder spectrumanalyzer og oscilloskop via lydindgangen. Noget har jeg fået støvet op, bl.a. SID, InDepth, der så lovende ud, men den vil så gerne også installere noget PC-System-Guard, der skulle ligne noget spyware beskyttelse. Men hvorfor skal jeg dog tage stilling til anti-spyware, når jeg blot skal arbejde med audiosoftware. Det så mig alt for suspekt ud, så det fik en kold afinstallering. Prompte !

Hvis jeg ellers havde pladsen til det, så ville jeg kraftigt overveje at blive fast skribent i afdelingen for "Vintage". Jeg husker tydeligt da jeg var "yngre" og ofte gik meget tæt forbi en spritny cassettebåndoptager fra Revox i en hifi-forretning. Desværre havde jeg ikke råd. Jeg var ung OG fattig. Det endte vist med en Akai.......men det er jo ikke det samme. Der står for mange penge på billedet (nypris). Uha uha, det var kun forbeholdt de få.

JEg var ikke selv sikker på om de vilde holde - at genoplive drømmen om et revox setup - men nu har mit stået her i snart et par år og jeg glædes ved at lytte til det hver dag - modsat ovenstående billede hvor der er ganske mange maskiner fra B200 serien så har jeg kun en B225 som holder ferie hos villadsen - resten er B700 serien - 2 B77'ere, en B710MKII, 1 B790, 1 B750 MKII, 1 B760, 1 B740 (også hos Villadsen) og en studer A710 (minder meget om B710 mkII) og så selvfølgelig BX 4100 - Det spiller somd et skal og det skal det nok komme til mange år endnu - Jeg håber for sælgeren af ovenstående at han finder een køber til det hele - det bliver en glad mand

på fredag kommer min B740 effekt forstærker og min B225 hjem fra et længere kurophold hos Villadsen - længere ophold fordi jeg selv sagde at han bare skulle ruge den tid det tog - glæder mig meget - jeg er meget glad for den morfaragtige lyd CD afsilleren har  effektforstærkeren har jeg ikke helt regnet ud hvor jeg skal sætte ind - BX 4100 kan ikke biampes, men måske skal den bruges til at drive et par 12" Coral basser som jeg fik forleden - hovedsagen er ar den omsider kommer hjem nu.

Jeg har en revox A740 effekt forstærker som jeg er utrolig glad for, jeg bruger min B 750 som forforstærker.
Er der nogen der ved hvad forskellen på en B 740 og en A 740 er, jeg har ikke selv kunne finde ud af det.

Der er en revox A 740 på E-bay tyskland der er oppe i 1160 EUR og der er 1 time og 20 minutter tilbage af auktionen. De er i høj kurs så du r-l-b har vel fået den billigt trods reperationen.

Jeg glæder mig skam også til at få min igen. Villadsen sendte både min CD afspiller (den kender du jo  ) og min 740er fra samme posthus samme dag, med forudbetalte forudtrykte retur pakesedler til mit arbejde i hver sin pakke Det har dog ikke forhindret tumperne i post danmark at sende den ene til post center toulov i Fredericia - man skulle ellers tro at du havde tid til at læse adressen på forsigtig pakker der vejer 24 kg ? Nå men jeg vil da glæde mig til at den kommer i næste uge

Den A 740 på E-bay gik for 1321EUR det er en hulens masse penge for sådan en.
Kedeligt at du ikke fik dine pakker fra Post.Dk fredag men sådan går det en gang imellem med
det firma.
Som skrevet før så bruger jeg min B 750 som forforstærker til A 740eren med godt resultat.
Her om sommeren bliver det ikke til så meget med HI-FI ret, jeg mangler at få en ny pick-up til min B 790, men det kommer nok til efteråret.

hold op hvor kom der magt over tingene - den B740 holder BX 4100 højtalerne i et het andet "jern-greb" end den integrerede B750 MK II formåede at gøre Nu kan der spilles uhyggeligt højt uden forvrængning - hvilken forbedring - wauw hul igennem og mere til - her lige nået at teste med noget helt vildt bach orgelkoncert og noget helt enkelt tracy chapman - begge dele meget fint og flot formidlet - vintage kan nu altså godt gørde det meget godt

jo min to spors har 38 cm - men jeg skev i sin tid og de sagde at den ikke egnede sig til at afspille deres bånd i god nok kvalitet ? - de skriver noget om NAB og IEC:What we decided to do
was look at the many "prosumer" level reel to reel machines
that were offered in the late 70's through the early 90's. These offered
a more compact size that is a better fit with the typical high end home
listening room system and greater availability than large studio
machines. Some models were regarded highly enough for their mechanical
quality and reliability to be used in large numbers in radio stations,
recording studios and other commercial applications. The Technics RS1500
series, Otari MX-5050 series, Revox A77/B77/PR99 models, and models by
Tascam/TEAC were all considered as potential subjects for a program of
modification that brings them to as high a level of sonic quality as
possible.
For several reasons we
ended up choosing the Technics RS-1500 as our starting point. They are
attractive looking machines, they offer the versatility of both 1/4
track and 1/2 track playback heads and three tape speeds, and most
importantly they have what we feel is a superior tape transport path,
the isolated loop. The isolated loop is an evolution of a design first
developed in the 60's by 3M. The concept revolves around the idea that
the tape is completely isolated from the negative influences of as many
of the rotating and fixed elements in the tape drive as possible as it
passes over the heads. The RS1500 uses a servo reel control system
combined with dual pinch rollers on a single capstan to maintain
constant tension on the tape. This results in very stable, low flutter
playback.
The one possible
shortcoming of the RS 1500 is its lack of IEC playback equalization. In
actual practice this is not such a big issue, because the quality of the
playback electronics in all of these late 20th century prosumer grade
machines is dismal. The only way to get the full benefit of the sonic
quality of Tape Project Tapes is to use better outboard playback (repro)
electronics anyway.
If you have the
space for a studio machine—and the budget—we can help you here too.
We recommend the
Ampex ATR-100, built from the ground up by ATR
Service Corp. to be better than when it rolled off
the showroom floor. You have several choices of repro electronics: We
can fit it with The Tape Project by Bottlehead electronics mentioned
above. If you would like solid state, we can recommend the Aria
electronics from ATR Service Corp. Either of these options will give you
a spectacular sounding machine.
If you would
prefer a Studer transport, get one refurbished by
JRF Magnetic Science, and
have it fitted with your choice of electronics as listed
above. It would also be a stellar performer.

de giver her forklaring på hvorfor de har valgt IEC EQ - ikke at jeg fatter en bjælde af det :-) Why
IEC equalization?
Are
we nuts? Or is there a good reason?
I am asked this question almost daily. Typically the question
is accompanied by the comment that the consumer grade tape
machines out there are are almost all set up with NAB playback
EQ rather than IEC playback EQ. I'll attempt to give a not too
technical explanation of our choice to use IEC playback EQ on
the Tape Project tapes. My reference, and a brilliant resource
for those interested in more detailed discussion, is Jay
McKnight's collection of technical papers on his Magnetic
Reference Labs website, home of the high quality MRL
calibration tapes.
The NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) standard for
tape playback equalization was designed by Frank Lennert in
1948 for use with early Ampex tape machines and the then
industry standard 3M Scotch 111 formula tape. Scotch 111 is
well regarded for it's ability to hang onto a signal over many
years. But by modern standards it's a "high noise"
formula. And tape heads of the era were limited in high
frequency response. The NAB equalization curve was designed to
compensate for these factors by boosting the high frequencies
above 3150 Hz during playback. The 3150Hz transition frequency
creates a "boost" in the high frequencies that is
3dB greater than the inherent loss of high frequencies that
occur in the modern day recording process. Modern tape
formulations (and tape heads) have improved so much from the
early days in terms of frequency response and noise floor that
the high frequency flux now needs to be cut during recording
to get flat reponse during playback with NAB EQ. So a shelf
needed to be created in the recording EQ curve to compensate,
and this keeps the recording engineer from being able to take
full advantage of modern low noise tape formulations. From a
modern tape machine designer's perspective this is getting
messy! Now you're boosting the highs way more than you should
and noise goes up. So we need a new EQ curve that let's us
avoid cutting the highs during recording.
Yup, you guessed it, the 4500Hz transition frequency of the
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) playback EQ
nicely matches the losses of modern tape formulations, and the
recording EQ doesn't need to make unecessary compensation for
overly boosted playback EQ. Ironically the IEC curve isn't
even a new EQ curve - it has been used in Europe for mastering
almost as long as the NAB standard has been used for
commercial playback. It's a simpler curve to implement and
gets the high frequency noise levels down to where noise
reduction methods like Dolby and DBX become unecessary.
Sonically it's a winner, and that's means it fits right into
the Tape Project's goal of delivering the best possible music
in the best possible format.
Studio machines from the likes of Studer and Ampex come with
selectable IEC EQ, and some "prosumer" tape machines
like the Otari MX-5050BII and the Technics RS 1520 do as well
(along with sporting the necessary half track playback head
and 15 ips capability for playing Tape Project Tapes). Some
other machines can be modified to IEC EQ by a competent
technician, and the ultimate is to have a machine modified to
connect the heads directly to custom playback electronics with
switchable EQ setting like those offered by ATR
Services, E.A.R., Manley
Labs, and soon by Bottlehead.
Bottlehead also offers DIYers a kit that can be adapted to
tape playback, the Seduction.
