HI
I'm in the middle of buying NAD S100+S200, but someone said to me that S300 is better, that is more high end(ish), is that really so? I've been told that pre&power amp have more NAD sound, and S300 is more Gryphon. I really don't know what to buy, I can only test S300, but not S100+S200. Can somebody here help me - I've seen quite a few have silverline series amps, so I would really appreciate if you could help me.
Have a nice Day

Hey Matt
It would be a great help for us to know a little about what speakers they will be used with and maybe cables and etc.
If it was up to me i would go with the S300, which in my opinion has the best sound - but the power in S300 is not as great as the power offered in S100+S200.
So i would say that it must be decided by the speakers you have.
I hope that you will be able to use these few lines in your selection process
Mads

HI
All my speakers at home are System Audio(I have 7 SA speakers,5 HT,2Stereo), speakers for the silverline would at the moment be 5010 Signature. Does anyone know what's the difference in original 5010 Signature and the T-version of the same speaker(Ive changed the coil for the same as T-version but the sound is not the same as in T-version)
I know 2 people here in SLO, that their S300 had to go to repair because of overheating, like one channel died...... so S300 users in Denmark, have you ever repaired your S300 and how much have you paid for service(here rapair costs about 1800DKK). And just one question about S200(I don't understant danish well so I'm askin in english)-is that really a katastrofe of amp or what have I read in one topic.
Have a nice Day

Hey again Matt
I would give S300 a try if i was to decide I havent heard of the problem that you mention, no overheats at all!
Nad S200 is something else, almost everything inside S200 is similar to the inside of NAD 218THX and i havent heard problems with that at all. But the S200 apparently seems to create unwanted noise and so far there is no explanation of that. But it is far from every owner of a NAD S200 who has experienced that problem - including me.
S100+S200 Vs S300 are both very good choices, but in my opinion S200 is overkill for your speakers! But in the end you are to decide so i would suggest that you pick what YOU want and has fallen in love with - at the end you will appreciate it.
But a question suddenly popped up in my head - if you have 7 SA speakers, arent you looking for a surround receiver and not a stereo for 2 speakers only?

Hello Matt
Let me start by saying that I own the NAD Silverline S300 integrated amp, and I am very happy with it.
You ask about the difference between the S100/S200 combo and the S300 integrated. The S200 is really just an upgrated version of the THX218, and sonically these 2 amps are very close. They both represent what is now commonly known as the "NAD-sound".
The S300 sounds very much different from the classic line-up of NAD amplifiers. This should not come as a surprise since its construction differ from NAD´s classic line-up of amplifiers. The S300 uses zero global feedback.
It is so hard to explain what an amplifier sound like, but I feel that compared to the S200, the S300 has a more "high-end" sound. Its sound is cleaner and it plays with more authority.
By the way: The highly priced Gryphon Tabu and the NAD S300 are almost identical. I know that Gryphon denies this fact, but if you look inside both you will see an almost similar design and layout.
I have never had problems with overheating, but the S300 does tend to get hot! Putting it under a shelf or inside a cabinet is a bad idea. It needs lots of air around it. Mine is placed on top of a rack.
Hope this helps __________________ I like techno - UNPLUGGED!

I’ve just seen your post dude. I could enlighten you on the culprits but the last time I tried to do some ‘enlightenment’, a few people on this forum choked on their cornflakes and some irrational behaviour followed, therefore I’ll pass on that one.
Yes, I have heard the Silverline series (and also the Gryphon amp). The first time I heard the Silverline components was at a dealer’s showroom and they were partnered with Dynaudio speakers (similar to the dem that Paul Duerden described). The sound was stunning and I had to gulp when I discovered that that the combo making such fine sounds were from NAD as the room also housed the likes of Mark Levinson, Audio Research, Transcriptor turntables, etc. I had heard a few NAD components before and they sounded nothing like the Silverline series. As Adam has described, the voices and instruments were lifelike and the music just drew me in. As I already had a system I was happy with, I did the next best thing. When a friend was looking for a new system, I took him to the same dealership and he was blown away by the sound. A weekend home audition convinced him that he had to go for both the top range Silverline CD player and the S300 amp as they work so well together. Perhaps, through synergy or something else, the Silverline series gel very well with Dynaudio speakers. It could be that the Silverline series are tested with Dynaudio speakers as they are both made in Scandinavia. Suffice to say that my friend now has Dynaudio floorstanders to partner the NAD combo.
As to whether the Gryphon was “overpriced and the NAD is a 3K quality amp selling for half price”, all I can say is that the Gryphon and NAD amps had different target buyers. The Gryphon was aimed at brand conscious audiophiles who wanted to be different and did not mind paying for the priviledge so Gryphon priced the amp accordingly. NAD also have their target buyers – music lovers on a budget who just want to enjoy the music. Given, their target market and brand image (non-audiophile), it would have been crazy for them to price the S300 at GBP 3K. So the amp was sensibly priced at around GBP 1500 (around the Primare A30.1 mark – did I say Primare?? ) to entice NAD fans to move up in the range and to encourage new music lovers into the fold. Note my use of the words audiophiles and music lovers as the two are a breed apart.
