Hej,

He had a vision and asked me to come and set it up for him. We got to know each other pretty well, and sometime towards the end of 1985, prior to the release of 'So', Peter said he wanted to move somewhere bigger where he could record and make videos - a place that other people would use. |

"I thought he was barking mad, actually. I didn't think that anybody would ever do what he was talking about doing on their own. Take the risk of throwing the amount of money into the project that it would need to make it worthwhile. It seemed then to be the sort of project that a major record company would do, but not an individual.
It proved the point again that, if you create a great environment for people and make the thing work, you can just work round the problems you create, like having a great big computer howling away in the toilet, which is where we had to put it.
By November of '87, Phase One was complete. We then started Phase Two, the big Control Room and its associated spaces. I remember Tears For Fears started recording 'Sowing The Seeds Of Love' at the same time. We had to black out all the windows so they couldn't see what was going on, because even if they couldn't hear the piling rig, and they probably could, they certainly wouldn't have been able to work if they could see it. The soil we're on is not that great because of the amount of water around, so we had to underpin the whole building. Every two feet around the walls we had to drive in 40-foot long steel and concrete piles at an angle so they crossed under the wall. | |
